Diatomaceous Earth | A Coon Hunting Bug Killer

When I hear the organic folks “babble”, my ears quit working and I head for a better place. These are the same people that think the world ends if I drink a 16oz soda. They want to live forever, but the truth be known, they won't be around any longer than the rest of us.

To my surprise, I am testing and listing some organic products from Mearicle Solutions on my coon hunting supply web site. The question is why?

Well I have and I'm testing their products with great results. One of these is the all natural wormer and pesticide. It is a food grade Diatomaceous Earth (DE) . I have researched DE and thought you should know a little about the stuff.

Diatomaceous Earth is an off white talc-like powder that is the fossilized remains of marine phytoplankton. When sprinkled on a bug that has an exoskeleton ( bed bugs, fleas, ants or others) it gets caught between their exoskeleton joints. As they move, the DE acts like razor blades and cuts them up. It does not hurt mammals. Warm blooded animals can eat it with no harm. We can and do eat it. DE is in most grain and flour we use. A lot of grains are stored with DE to keep the bugs from eating the grain.

On a microscopic level , the DE particles are very sharp. These particles stick to an insect and get stuck between its exoskeleton joints. As the insect moves, they physically get cut up. Allowing precious moisture of the insect to dry up. Bug jerky is the result.

DE kills all bugs, but warm blooded animals and us can have DE rubbed on the skin, hair, and even eat it with no harm. Keep DE away from eyes and don't breath to much of the stuff.

Feed DE to your dogs and other animals for worms. Some people use DE for their health. ( I have not tested that yet). It does seem to help keep farm stock healthy. Farmer use DE as a safe wormer and of course dogs do benefit from using DE as a wormer.

Food grade DE will contain less than 1% crystalline silica.

This article is about pure food grade DE. Food Grade, Food grade, etc. I gotta keep saying it. Some dummies say you can use other grades of DE, pool grade, and other grades, Do not use them. The pure stuff has no junk like clay, dirt, and more that is not good for animals.

I put sand and a hand full of DE in a hand held seed spreader to salt the yard, kennel, and close to the house for bugs , fleas, ants, and more pest.
